Environmental Awareness Program Concludes a Fulfilling Fall Season

Sprouts Continues to Grow

In the Fall of 2024 we interacted with nearly 150 second graders in our learning gardens at three CCS schools. Our students recorded in their garden notebooks the seeds they planted, the plants they grew into, and other earthly elements that make our learning gardens grow. They were able to engage with some soil critters thanks to Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District's programming, and learned how to keep their neighborhoods and community healthy with Keep Columbus Beautiful. Our students expanded their taste buds, trying 24 different fruits and vegetables throughout our eight weeks together, and partook in the growing process of peas and lettuce - empowering them to care for their family, friends, and community. We will miss our Sprouts over the winter, but look forward to growing with them again in the Spring!

Pathways Park Tree Planting

On November 9th we planted 60 more trees along the Alum Creek Trail, bringing our total up to 120 trees planted. We have now lined .75 miles of the trail with trees thanks to the nearly 60 volunteers who came out this year and last. This year in particular was extra special for us as we had players and families who utilize the park on a regular basis come join us in our efforts to make the park and landscape a healthier one for all who enjoy the space. This project could not have been completed without the support and partnerships from Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District (FSWCD), the City of Columbus, Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries (FACT), and Commercial Land Management Systems (CLMS).
